Defence Research 2010 is the only event this year where the UK MOD will present the whole of its £400 million annual research investment to industry, academia and other suppliers, alongside key members of the MOD and the Armed Services. R Baker (Electrical) Ltd has been serving the electrical industry since 1981. We have built a very solid reputation across the commercial and defence industry in manufacturing and repair. Our manufacturing facilities are based in south Liverpool where all operations are run from.
The role:
The role is for a Business Development Manager who wants to push their career to the next level and build their own team. This is a really exciting opportunity to lead the company sales whilst taking complete accountability for hitting sales targets. You will be tasked with introducing new procedures, identifying target customers and working closely with them to maximise all sales opportunities.
- You will be responsible for defining and implementing a focussed sales strategy for the North West and UK market.
- Preparation of quotations and technical / commercial proposals.
- Provision of regular reports on the status of sales activities and opportunities together with action plans.
- Search for new opportunities that will sustain our company into the future.
- We expect you to be up and running effectively from the start, following initial product training and familiarisation with the company.
- An understanding of the electrical industry, transformers, motors, power supplies, electrical switchgear and control panels.
- To carry out general tasks set out by Business Manager.
- Minimum 5 years direct industry experience.
- Drive and ambition to help grow the company.
- Qualification in electrical engineering preferred, but not necessary.
- Superior oral and written communication and customer relations skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage others.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
- Ability to handle heavy workload with timeline constraints.
- Resourceful in completing a wide range of tasks; high technical acumen.

HMS Albion (L14)
HMS Albion is in Liverpool this week, here are some images of it in the river Mersey.
The ninth and current HMS Albion (2001-present) is a First-of-Class Landing Platform Dock (LPD) ship of the Royal Navy built in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, England, UK. Albion is one of the newest ships of the Navy and provides an amphibious assault capability. She is the nameship of the Albion class landing platform dock, which also includes HMS Bulwark. The ship also carries a permanently-embarked Royal Marines landing craft unit, 6 Assault Squadron, Royal Marines.

Lloyd's Register to Test BIo-Fuels
Lloyd's Register is to take a major role in a two year prject to test the suitability of bio-diesel for use in powering marine engine. The massive study will happen on board the Maersk Line container ship, Maersk Kalmar.
